Our target audience

Our site is intended for those who have either a professional or sporting interest in the hunting of deer. The CSVenator family of products has been designed by deer management professionals and deer stalkers for use by enthusiastic sportsmen, professional deer hunters, estate managers and national or state bodies to make it easy to capture information about culling activities and to quickly produce pre-formatted reports and analysis based on this information.

Terminology

Roe Buck
In the UK and some other parts of Europe, people who take part in the hunting of deer are known as 'deer stalkers' rather than 'deer hunters'. This is because 'hunting' has become associated with the use of dogs in taking wild game or controlling vermin whereas 'stalking' is the art of an individual using skill and expertise to place himself in an advantageous position when a deer makes a mistake! In stalking, a dog is only used to find an animal that has run into cover before dropping. Throughout this website and within the CSVenator software, the terms hunter / hunting and stalker / stalking have the same meaning.

The case for deer management

Deer represent a wonderful asset in any environment. They are by nature, beautiful and graceful CSVenator, superbly adapted to the countryside in which they live and they continue to expand their range wherever the habitat is suitable. They have always been valued as a food source and have been a target for hunters for thousands of years. With the decline in natural predators across the world, especially in densely populated countries, deer have also established a reputation as something of a nuisance and can cause severe damage to growing crops and to commercial forestry. They are also responsible for numerous road traffic accidents where deer and road users come into close contact. For these latter reasons, it is necessary to control deer populations so that the interests of both deer and people are protected. CSVenator has been developed to take much of the effort out of administering deer management activities.

Keeping records

It is important that deer control, whether for commercial or sporting reasons, is undertaken in a responsible way and that those involved in culling deer take the proper measures to ensure that the animals that they take are killed efficiently, are properly inspected for disease or abnormalities and are hygienically put into the human food chain. CSVenator allows this information to be easily recorded.

In all aspects of deer management, it is good practice to keep comprehensive and reliable records of culling activity. Many formal estates and commercial deer farms need this information for business and sporting reasons. Increasingly, such records are required by legislation as evidenced by the EU directives which came into force on January 1st, 2006. CSVenator provides comprehensive, easy to use, pre-formatted report facilities.
